Basil's 4 X 4 - The Elephant's Memory - Papa Bear and the Porridger

BASIL'S 4 X 4 Hunting for honey is hard work so Basil the bear buys a 4 X 4 and after he has learnt to drive it he uses it to hunt for honey. When the 4 X 4 breaks down Basil follows his trail back home. On the way he sees how destructive he has been by driving carelessly over the countryside. He sees the shrubs and flowers that his 4 X 4 destroyed, the beautiful butterfly that he ran over, the anthill that he broke, the bird's nest that he upset and all the small animals that he frightened. From what he sees Basil learns an important lesson. THE ELEPHANT'S MEMORY Elephant believes that he has lost his memory and the other animals set out to find the missing memory that Owl describes as being "round and brown". The missing memory is discovered being kicked around by the children on the playing field in the nearby village. The animals attempt to recover the memory and eventually skunk manages to retrieve it. When the animals present the recovered memory to Elephant he tells them that what they have brought him is a football and he remembers seeing a similar football in a photograph sent to him by his uncle Ellie who works in a circus. Asked how he can remember that when he has lost his memory Elephant gives them an amazing answer. PAPA BEAR AND THE PORRIDGE Ever since that naughty little girl Goldilocks invaded their home the Bear family has been eating their porridge in the evenings instead of in the mornings. Nothing that Mama Bear does ever satisfies Papa Bear. When Mama Bear goes to weed the cabbage patch Papa Bear sees an opportunity to show his wife how the household should be run. Papa Bear's responsibilities include watching over Baby Bear, feeding the pig, taking the cow to the field to graze and preparing the porridge for their evening meal. Can Papa Bear achieve all this before Mama Bear returns? Firstly, Baby Bear will not go to sleep and Papa Bear spends a great deal of time trying to get the cub to sleep. When this is finally accomplished Papa Bear takes a bucket of buttermilk to feed the pig but when he opens the front door the pig rushes in, knocks him over and spills the milk all over the floor. Then, while getting another bucket of buttermilk Papa Bear slips on the wet floor and spills the second bucket over the pig. Papa Bear then begins preparing the porridge but remembers that the cow needs to be taken to the field some distance away. Remembering that there is some good grass growing on the thatch roof of the house Papa Bear leads the cow up onto the roof, believing that this will save him some time. He ties a rope around the cow's neck and passes it down the chimney. Papa Bear returns to the kitchen and ties the rope from the cow around his ankle to free up both his hands. While grazing at the front of the roof the cow is stung by a big bumble bee and jumps off the roof in fright , pulling Papa Bear up into the chimney where he gets stuck upside-down. Just then Mama Bear arrives back at the house, frees the cow and goes into the house. In the kitchen she finds Baby Bear squalling, the pig asleep and covered in buttermilk, milk splashed all over the floor and Papa Bear in the hearth covered in soot and standing on his head in the porridge.
