Pubblicato in occasione del sessantesimo anniversario della morte di Percy Grainger, il cofanetto The Complete Grainger Edition contiene tutti i ventuno album realizzati dalla Chandos delle sue opere. Il compositore e pianista di origine australiana era una delle voci più originali della musica e le sue composizioni, in particolare i suoi arrangiamenti di canzoni popolari, includono alcuni dei brani più amati al mondo. Ha studiato pianoforte fin da giovanissimo e, all’età di vent’anni, aveva già pensato o formulato la maggior parte delle sue composizioni. Gli anni seguenti lo videro rielaborare e riorganizzare febbrilmente questi pezzi per formazioni diverse; in realtà è stato Grainger che concepì l’idea di partitura ‘elastica’: un lavoro con un numero quasi illimitato di versioni eseguibili. Partecipante entusiasta al movimento delle canzoni popolari inglese, Grainger collezionò più di 500 canti popolari, ai quali attinse sia per i suoi straordinari lavori originali che per i suoi arrangiamenti fantasiosi, tra cui “Country Gardens” e “Molly on the Shore”. Verso la fine della sua vita Grainger rimase affascinato dall’idea di "Musica libera", musica non limitata dal tempo o dagli intervalli di tono. I dispositivi meccanici che ha creato in collaborazione con lo scienziato Burnett Cross sono oggi considerati precursori del moderno sintetizzatore elettronico.
