Malta in World War II: Contemporary watercolours by Alfred Gerada

A unique collection of watercolors of World War Two in Malta which have never been seen before, executed on site by the Maltese war artist, Alfred Gera. He painted with vigor and enthusiasm capturing the whole gamut of life and action during wartime Malta. The range of watercolors covers military events on land and sea and in the air, war camouflage of ships and vehicles, uniforms and arm bands, regimental berets, flashes on steel helmets, bomb sizes, air raids, flag alerts, convoys, etc. How the people lived when Malta's fate hung in the balance is mirrored in many paintings of people taking cover and living in shelters; of children playing, rejoicing and singing; of mothers quarrelling; people still falling in love; of refugees on the move; of queues for milk, bread and even water; and of the fear of death.
