Il produttore Sid Feller fu sorpreso quando Ray Charles gli chiese di realizzare una raccolta di brani country e western. Tuttavia, ora che abbiamo un panorama di tutta la carriera di Charles, risulta chiaro che country e western, così come il jazz, il blues, e tutti gli altri generi musicali popolari americani, sono sempre stati parte integrante del linguaggio del grande cantante e pianista. “Modern Sounds in Country & Western Music” è stato uno degli albumi più venduti da Ray Charles nel corso della sua carriera e gli è valso un Grammy Awards nel 1963 come Best Rhythm & Blues Recording, oltre ad essere incluso nella Grammy Hall of Fame nel 1999. Come bonus di questa nuova edizione è stato aggiunto un brano, “At The Club”, registrato nel corso della stessa sessione, ma non apparso sull’LP originale.
