Agli inizi degli anni Cinquanta Los Angeles divenne l'epicentro di una nuova forma di Bebop che si diffuse in tutta la California e che venne presto identificato come “West Coast Jazz”. Musicisti simbolo della città come Chet Baker, Stan Getz o Gerry Mulligan, hanno contribuito a plasmare questo stile decisamente più dolce (e spesso più “arrangiato”) rispetto all’Hard Bop proveniente dalla East Coast. Alcuni dei più grandi album originali registrati dai giganti del West Coast Jazz sono stati rimasterizzati e raccolti in questo box da 10 CD. Partendo da classici come “Chet Baker & Crew” o “West Coast Jazz” di Stan Getz, questo box che riunisce ben venti album originali, spazia attraverso un’ampia gamma di atmosfere: dagli arrangiamenti orchestrali di “With Strings Attached” di Chico Hamilton alle potenti sezioni di fiati di “West Coast Blues” di Harold Land o “Sunset Eyes” di Teddy Edwards, passando per l’orchestra di Marty Paich con il suo “I Get A Boot Out Of You” o l’intenso “Collaboration” del trombettista Shorty Rogers e del pianista André Previn.
