Women and Health: An Annotated Bibliography

Women and Health considers approximately 300 books published during the last three decades that are related to women's issues in health. It presents integrated facets of women's health from philosophical, religious, medical, sociocultural, historical, and experiential perspectives. Comprised of six chapters, each preceded by an introduction, this work considers historical, philosophical, and theological descriptions of women and their impact upon women's health. It treats health care for women from many perspectives, including that of the health care professional and the patient. It also provides information about self-help and self-education so that women may become more involved in their own health care. This knowledge is crucial for women who want their needs to be specifically addressed by the health care system. The book contains additional chapters on addiction, and spirituality as it plays a role in health and recovery. Professionals will find in this book avenues to pursue the context and outcome of health questions and methods of collaborating with other health professionals to address the issue of gender in health care. In addition, by bringing together academic as well as popular and self-help works, this book enables men and women of any interest or background to pursue answers to questions about women and their health.
